Rise Above Bullying Workshop

Posted: October 01, 2019

October is National Bullying Prevention Month

It’s NOT enough to just talk to your child about bullying – your child needs a systematic approach to deal with these situations (which are going to occur – no matter how much you try to protect them).

The ONLY way for your child to have the CONFIDENCE to stand up to bullies, is for them to learn the following:

Endorphins: The Key to Effort and Focus in Children and Teens

Endorphins: The Key to Effort and Focus in Children and Teens Endorphins are natural chemicals produced in the body to reduce pain and boost happiness. They are most often associated with exercise since the release of these “feel-good” chemicals cause a state of euphoria and is usually known as a “runner’s high.” However, most any exercise will cause this state of happiness and it is also boosted through laughter and excitement. In recent years, studies involving endorphins have begun to focus on how this chemical contributes to learning. Physical activity is essential to brain development. Basically, when we feel good, we learn better. Intellectually stimulating the brain when endorphins have been released, helps even more. For the last five years, neuroscientists have been encouraging parents and teachers to work on stimulating the good feeling chemicals in the brain. The mind-body connection is a powerful thing.

SEROTONIN: The Key To Reinforcing Positive Behaviors In Children and Teens Have you ever had a “gut feeling” about something? Have you ever considered that children have these as well? Of course they do! The problem is, they don’t know how to express this to us. They know something doesn’t feel right, so they act out or exhibit a grumpy mood. The good news is, there is a way to boost their mood and reinforce positive behavior choices. Serotonin, also known as the “feel good” neurotransmitter, plays a part in our wellbeing and is important in balancing mood. Ninety percent of the serotonin in our bodies is produced in the gut. This is because the gut and the brain were developed from the same embryo cell line and continue to communicate through the vagus nerve. This explains why the gut is often referred to as the “second brain” and where the phrase “gut feeling” comes from.

Martial Arts: The Effective After School Program

A parent’s work schedule never really syncs up perfectly with his/her child’s school schedule. As school lets out for the day, parents are usually wondering what options are in place for them to place their children in until they are out of work. Plus, they want to be able to put their children in programs that going to benefit the child versus sending them to a relative to watch television all afternoon. They might go to tutoring, but that activity can only benefit them on an academic level. If parents are looking for an effective, all-around activity, then they should consider placing their children in a martial arts after school program. In doing so, parents will begin to see great growth and benefits in their children.
