Connecticut State BJJ Championships: Weekend Recap

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Competition 

This past Sunday Bronx Jiu-Jitsu traveled up north to Connecticut to attend the CTSBJJ (Connecticut State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships). The Bronx was represented well on Sunday with 14 competitors bringing home 16 medals, including 8 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals and 5 Bronze medals!

Things kicked off quickly with Junior Grapplers, Paul Lachman and Isaiah Hernandez both placing 3rd in their devision, securing bronze medals.

The streak did not end there. Brown Belt Pablo Carela defeats his opponent in his division winning the Gold medal and taking over the Super Heavy Brown Belt masters division.

Coach Jeson moves up a weight class to light weight and finishes his opponent with a vicious kimura lock!

Coach Luis secures a Gold medal in the Purple Belt Medium Heavy division, defeating his two opponents.

Jose Santiago show dominance over the ultra heavy White belt division achieving first place with an Americana arm lock for the finish.

Michael Gardinet and Anthony Pace close out the brackets in their division taking first and second place respectively

Matthew Gardinet moves up a division to lightweight and places in first bringing home Gold for bluebelt lightweights. But that isn’t all, Both Michael and Matthew go one to do the open class (absolute) divisions and win Bronze and Gold medals respectively. 

Rik Santiago making his BJJ tournament debut takes first place, taking home the gold, in the middle weight masters division.

Nicholas Diaz dominates his first match and after a very tough second match falls a bit short, winning 2nd place and the silver medal for his division.

Anaie Loyola, Jonathan Pagan, Miguel Martinez also displayed tremendous performances and heart achieving the silver medals in their divisions.
